Mini-Course Lesson One

Lesson 1 – The Importance of a Personal Contact List

One of the most important elements of marketing online is having a Personal Contact List. And what the heck is a Personal Contact List?? It’s a list of contacts that you accumulate over time. You will always be adding new contacts to your list. How much time it takes to build a sizable list depends upon the effort you put into building your list and the methods you use.

The people who join your Personal Contact List are individuals who have an interest in some aspect of your website and business – either products/services or information that you offer.

People who opt-in to your list eventually become prospective customers or clients for your business. Over time, your personal contact list will prove to be your very best source of clients and customers, and if you learn how to use your contact list properly, many of your contacts will become excellent, life long customers – which is exactly what you want!

Doing business online can be very profitable but if you don’t have any customers your website will just sit there taking up a chunk of cyber space, not making any money for you at all… You’re going to need customers! And merely having a website does not result in customers. When it comes to the internet it’s definitely not a matter of if you build it, they will come. It’s a BIG internet out there (really, really big!)!

There are many fancy websites, tons of products for sale, and lots of fun and activity available 24/7 to those surfing the net. The Internet is a great place to do business, but there is always plenty of competition. You’re going to have to carefully carve out your own corner of the World Wide Web, and you do that by building a Personal Contact List.

And how do you build your Personal Contact List
and carve out your corner? Great Question!

There are many effective ways to build a personal contact list. One of the most effective ways is to put an opt-in form on your website, then drive traffic towards your site, and encourage your visitors to opt-in.

As an example, here is the opt-in form on my website:

In order to encourage people to opt-in, you must offer your visitors something of value: tips and information related to the theme of your site, a free report, a sample of your product, a free consultation. You can offer anything at all – as long as you offer something of value and not some useless junk.

If you offer something of poor quality or re-hashed, outdated information, you will disappoint your contact and fail to develop any credibility with them. Today’s web surfers are extremely savvy and they don’t like to feel that they have been duped! If you’re incentive to get them to opt-in has no value in your visitor’s eyes, you will alienate that contact.

So, when offering an incentive to encourage your visitors to opt-in, always over deliver. Once they opt-in send something that will have great value to your visitor. You will not only get their attention by giving something of value, you will make a lasting positive impression and a loyal new contact .

And how do you drive traffic to your site so that people can opt-in to your contact list? Well, that is a lesson in itself which we will cover in a few days.

Ok – now you know one highly effective way to start building your Personal Contact List! Get that opt-in form on your website and start building!

That’s it for today’s lesson. The next lesson is:
